Freedom of Speech is Pressed While India Continues to Place Bans and Censorship
BBC has released a documentary film of an interview on rapist Mukesh Singh, as well as three other men, who show no remorse to their crimes. These men brutally raped a girl in India in 2012. The film itself is controversial to India exposure, as it pushes the boundaries of what's acceptable in their culture. Currently, there has been a ban placed on the viewing of this film in India, as their government believes it will give India a bad image as well as give ideas to other individuals. According to CNN.com, Singh is quoted saying,
"when being raped, she shouldn't fight back. She should just be silent and allow the rape".
"A girl is more responsible for rape than a boy".
These quotes were shocking to the rest of the world, but accepted in India. This documentary is meant to show others the face of a true rapist story. It is meant to educate people and gain their own opinions on the topic. With India banning such a documentary, the people of India don't get the full story as to what happened in their country.
The new popular movie, "50 Shades of Grey", just hit theaters everywhere on Valentine's Day. Everywhere, but a few countries that is. One country on the map with delay was India, of course. This movie is meant to glorify consensual pain during sex, also know as BDSM. According to Xeromag.com BDSM is an acronym of "B&D" (Bondage & Discipline), "D&S" (Dominance & Submission), and "S&M" (sadomasochism). "BDSM" refers to any or all of these things, and a lot of stuff besides. Time.com reported,
"Shravan Kumar, the chief executive of India’s Central Board of Film Certification, said the film’s backers Universal Pictures could appeal the decision, Reute

Kumar did not specify why the board declined to approve the film’s release.
A source within Universal Pictures said the ban came despite the studio cutting all nudity out of the film and toning down sexually explicit scenes."
Both the documentary on the 2012 rapist as well as the hollywood produced film, "50 Shades of Grey", both on the hot topic of sex, banned from India. This is detrimental to the country itself as it shows the lack of knowledge India is willing to give their people, as well as the lack of freedom of speech. Knowledge is power, but without it, you force one to make blind ideas and decisions.
